How does the What Font Is This tool work?

Upload an image of the text whose font you want to identify (screenshot, photo or scan — JPG, PNG or WebP). Then answer four quick questions: serif vs sans-serif, weight (light/regular/bold/black), style (upright/italic/script/display), and any unique features (rounded, geometric, condensed, monospace). The tool filters a curated database of 100+ popular fonts and returns the top 8 matches with a confidence score and live preview. Everything runs locally — no image is uploaded to any server.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is loaded into your browser using a local URL.createObjectURL() handle and never sent over the network. When you close the tab, the image is gone. The tool only reads the image so you can see it; all matching is done by your answers to the four questions.

How accurate is this font identifier?

It is a curated heuristic matcher, not a full pixel-level font finder like a paid service. The tool narrows 100+ well-known fonts down to the top 8 candidates based on your selections. It is great for narrowing the search and getting a starting point — for pixel-perfect matches of obscure fonts, a dedicated service is still the best choice.

Can I preview each match in the actual font?

Yes. Each match shows a live preview rendered in its own font using CSS font-family. If you have the font installed locally it will display in that font; otherwise it falls back to a generic serif or sans-serif. You can also click the font name to open its Google Fonts page (when available) for more details and weights.
