What barcode formats are supported?

The reader uses the open-source ZXing library and supports over 20 formats including QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF417, Aztec, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Codabar, ITF and RSS-14. Both 1D linear and 2D matrix codes are recognized.

Do my images get uploaded to a server?

Accepted Answer

No. All decoding happens locally in your browser using a JavaScript WebAssembly implementation. Your image never leaves your device. This makes it safe to scan barcodes that contain personal or confidential data.

Can I scan barcodes with my webcam in real time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The live scanner tab uses the getUserMedia API to access your webcam. Point the camera at a barcode and the reader will decode it instantly. You can also upload an image file or drop a screenshot.

Question 4

Why is my barcode not detected?

Accepted Answer

The most common reasons are: the image is too blurry, the barcode is too small (try cropping tighter), the image has poor contrast, or the code is damaged or partially covered. Try a higher-resolution image with the barcode filling more of the frame.
